How to Play Gabbagools
There are two phases to the game:
- Gools, played with five dice.
- Three Man, played with two dice.
Gools: the five dice phase
Goal: Roll the lowest possible score using five dice. 3s are always zero. Lowest total wins the round.
Standard Gools Turn
- Roll all five dice.
- Keep at least one die, reroll the rest.
- Repeat until all five dice are kept.
- Calculate your score. Remember: 3 = 0.
- Lowest total wins the round.
Special Rolls
- Gools: Five 3s. Total score = 0. The best roll.
- Pure Points: Five of the same number (lower score is better, so pure point 1 is better than a pure point 2)
- Impure Points: One 3 + four of the same number. Ranked the same as pure points
- Last Die = 6: If your last die comes up 6 (and it's not a part of a pure or impure point 6) then you are automatically the Three Man. Skip to the Three Man phase and good luck!
Roll-Offs & Rule-Making
- Tie? Everyone who has tied the same score rolls all 5 dice once. Lowest total wins. No keeping dice, it's all 5 at once.
When Does Everyone Drink?
- After each round: Everyone says “Hail [Winner's Name]” and drinks.
- Sloppy dice (falls off table): Everyone calls “Sloppy.” You drink.
Three Man, the two dice phase:
Goal: Make someone drink every time you roll both dice. As long as someone drinks, you get to roll again.
Standard Three Man Turn
- Two dice are passed clockwise. Rolling certain combinations makes different players drink.
- To stop being Three Man: Roll one die. If it’s not a 3, you’re free. If it's a 3, roll again. If it’s another 3, pick a new Three Man.
Three Man Drink Combos
- 7 = Left of roller drinks
- 8 = Roller drinks
- 9 = Right of roller drinks
- Any 3 = Three Man drinks
- Doubles (e.g. two 4s) = Hand out that many drinks
- Double 3s = Three Man drinks twice, and you get to give out 3 drinks
- 1 + 4 = Social. Everyone drinks
- 2 + 1 = Reversal. Play immediately reverses, so roller passes the dice back to whoever rolled previously, and play continues in that direction
